The Finance Minister has suggested a total exemption from custom charges on a number of important minerals, including lithium, copper, cobalt, and rare earth elements. These import tariffs have historically added to the high cost of manufacturing, even though these materials are necessary for the creation of EV batteries.

One of the most expensive parts of an electric car is the battery, hence Budget 2024 seeks to reduce the cost of production by eliminating these taxes.
